With the Amateur Draft on Sunday, we sat down with the Rays GM kirby and got his thoughts on what the Rays plan on doing with the number one pick. Here is the entire Q $ A.
Rays Insider: Thanks Kirby for sitting down with us today.
Kirby: No problem.
Rays Insider: You have been scouting guys over the last few weeks. Any guys jump out at you with the number one pick?
Kirby: We have a few guys we like with the pick. Right now we are sitting and sorting through the process trying to pick out that one guy that can be a game-changer for us in the future.
Rays Insider: Any names you want to give us?
Kirby: We don't like to give names of the players that we are looking at, but like I said there are three to four guys we are looking at and all of those guys are worthy of being the number one pick. They have the talent and the attitude.
Rays Insider: When will you guys know on who to pick?
Kirby: Honestly, we won't know or make up our mind until the draft begins. We will look at all of the options and go with what's best for our future and who can lead us there quickly.
Rays Insider: What do you look for in the number one pick?
Kirby: Well, there are two major things that you look at with the pick. Obviously number one is talent. Number two is attitude. The player you pick at number one is going to be a future face and have a lot of pressure on him. We have to know that he can handle that.
