I know Burt Reynolds is curious where they'll land, but in all honesty he might be dead by now |
SP Leo Varas- The former Astro arm out of the DR that has had fantastic success over his tenure as an Astro is looking for a new home and he'll be sure to find one and could very likely find himself to be one of the highest paid players this offseason. St. Louis has obvious holes in the back end of their rotation that they could fill in multiple ways but an obvious way to remedy this would be adding Varas into the mix.
Potential Destinations: STL, BOS, KC, PIT, CIN, LAD
SP Peter Lloyd- Along with Varas, this lefty has also spent his entire major league career with one team and finds himself on the market looking to send his great great grandchildren to college someday. Lloyd becomes a potential fit for quite a few teams looking to fill out the middle of their rotation and could find himself in the NL central with the Reds or Buccos or perhaps in the AL with Boston of Kansas City.
Potential Destinations: CIN, PIT, BOS, NYM, STL, KC
RP Matt Pepper- Another long time Astro find himself on the free agent market after a disappointing loss in the World Series to the Phillies. Pepper has established himself as a solid bullpen arm for a long time in the majors and figures to be a potential fit with many major league teams with weak bullpens or too much money to spend.
Potential Destinations: FLA, NYM, ARI, CHW
RP Ken Pym- Pym enters the market hoping a team is in desperate need for some bullpen help and if it goes as he plans he will find a new home. Released as a type A free agent, he will require a team to overpay to get his services.
Potential Destinations: CIN, BOS, LAD, SFG, FLA
C/1B Kent Malone- Kent cashed in with a good 3 year contract with Arizona 3 years ago, since he has had 3 big seasons for the D'backs but has found his option declined for the upcoming 2044 season. A team looking for a versatile bat will be the fit for Malone this offseason.
Potential Destinations: BOS, COL, CIN, BAL, PIT
1B Curt Wine- The lifetime Cub find himself on this offseason's market as perhaps the elite offensive talent and looks to join a contending squad after being the face of Chicago for the last 7 seasons.
Potential Destinations NYM, BOS, FLA, PHI, CIN, BAL, WAS
2B/LF James Faller- A big bat in the middle of the infield is certainly an attractive option for teams seeking to bolster their lineup going into next season. After leaving Milwaukee for Colorado 3 seasons ago; he found his home at second base full time.
Potential Destinations: TEX, PHI, KC, HOU, CHW, TB
2B Jerry Eldridge- Annnnnother former Astro jumping ship after their WS collapse vs the Phillies looking for a new home. An immensely successful bat at second base for the Indians, Reds and Stros over the course of his career seemingly shouldn't have too much trouble catching on with a new home as a type B free agent. All of the second basemen in this class will likely find themselves with similar suitors.
Potential Destinations: KC, PHI, TEX, TB, CHW
2B Wes Farr- The least established among the free agent (comp) second basemen goes into this class looking to strike gold. To spite his lack of production in a hitter park, scouts say that he has good raw skills but has struggled with consistency over the course of the season. Perhaps a new landscape is what the doctor ordered.
Potential Destinations: ARI, COL, PHI, HOU, TEX
OF Gabriel Marino- The former Bucco and Blue Jay find himself as a free agent after a pair of good seasons with the Blue Jays. The lefty could find a home with a team looking for a moderately priced corner OF or a DH.
Potential Destinations: ARI, BOS, FLA, KC, CIN, TB
OF Mike Conacher- One of the few things the people have Cleveland have had to cheer about over the last few years. He found himself alienated by the Cleveland community after being quoted towards the end of the season about resigning with the team, "Fuck this place, why would I want to be here." Time will tell if his poor choice of words will affect his market this offseason.
Potential Destinations: ARI, KC, BOS, FLA, SEA
OF Josh Drinkard- The former Nat found himself as the odd man out to begin the 2043 season in the outfield but carved out a role after Aaron Middlemiss struggled with performance and injuries. An effective bat over his career with Boston and Washington will look to find a new home this offseason.
Potential Destinations: COL, CIN, BOS, KC, PIT, NYM, TB
OF Lovell Jones- A good con pow and eye bat finds himself as the odd man out in the Nats outfield so is now a free agent looking for a new home. Has spent major league time with the Twins and Nationals and has enjoyed a very successful career.
Potential Destinations: FLA, ARI, KC, PIT, CIN, SFG
Mr. Conacher and the Cleveland Indians came to a mutual parting of ways. We all knew going into this season that it was likely Mike's last year with the team, and that it was up to him to perform his best this season in order to get a big contract. And he did just that. We wish him luck in the opposite climate of Cleveland - Los Angeles.
