Knowing your First Class Mogul - Stang

Thank you for agreeing to do the next part of the series Stang. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Thanks for having me Sean. Well, my name is Andrew/Drew, whichever is fine. I'm 31 years old. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I went to the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in Marketing. I also have a 2 year degree in Sports Management from a local technical college. I grew up playing football (middle linebacker) and played semi-pro baseball until i was 24. I have worked for the Atlanta Braves since i was 19, starting in game day operations as a paid intern and now work with corporate sponsorships and dabble in the marketing department from time to time. I recently moved just outside of downtown Atlanta with my fiance and 4 dogs (2 great danes, rottweiler and the fiance's 8lb mut).

Do you remember who or what brought you here to FCM?

I was originally recruited by DJ and Hokey. I've been playing mogul since the very first version('98 i think) and have been playing online since 04. DJ and Hokey were some of the first guys i ever played online with.

You have been around here in FCM for sometime now and have had your share of playoff teams, which team was your best?

To be honest, i'm terrible at remembering old seasons, usually after a season is done, i put it out of sight, out of mind. But my 2029 team in Detroit was pretty solid and my 2042 team in ATL was pretty damn good too, both falling short in the playoffs though.

We all have that player that we drafted that holds a place in our heart, who is that player for you?

Corey Hill SP with Atlanta or Royce Martin SP for DET... When i drafted Martin, i had extremely high hopes for him. He turned out to be decent for awhile but not as good as i thought. Same goes for Hill. Hill was the clear pick that year. He took his sweet ass time to develope and developed very nicely. I ended up trading him during the rebuild to SFG and that trade is largely why i'm competing now.

Everyone has their own method of preparing for the draft and looking at prospects, take us in Stangs world and give us a peak at your process and what you look for?

I look for the obvious things like eye, contact, splits and defense for hitters and control and movement on pitchers. But, i do pay attention to HS or college numbers and i also try to pay attention to little things like baserunning, fielding and throwing. I'm not really your conventional type drafter and i take a lot of criticism for it at times, but so be it. I like who i like and i like to gamble sometimes.

You have been here for awhile, is there a team from an individual season that you look back on and say, is the best team ever in FCM?
Again, i usually put past seasons out of sight out of mind, but GD's 2031 team, a couple of Andy team's in their prime definitely stick out. The balance of dominating pitchers and MVP hitters throughout were pretty amazing

Everyone has their rival, could be a traditional rival or friendly personal rivalry. I know you have a good relationship with a lot of the owners here, is there one or two that when you go head to head with that individual or you look at the calendar and see a series coming up on the calendar that mean a little more to you?

Well, being that i've known Hokey so long, its always fun to play against him, especially since it means a little more that we are in the same division. Rocky is always another i like to beat up on. He's a little out there, but also another good mogul friend of mine.

Stang, this is a question I have asked everyone. I am giving you the keys to the file and you can make your lineup and pitching staff. Can you give me that lineup with a couple bench players and pithing staff?

C- Josh Jarmel
1B- Steve Miller
2B- Sean Vogel
SS- Peter Conwell
3B- Marv Eason
OF- James Aitkenhead
OF- Peter Carson
OF- Mike Gardtner
SP- Donovan Pace

We all know you are a college football fan like myself and the one thing about college football they have awards for just about anything and everything. So here is your chance to be creative, I will give you a few awards and you can add a few of your own if you like and use your own interpretation in how to hand them out (either player from file or owner)...

I will do this with owners..

The Heisman - hate to say it, but this has to go to Andy or GD. Both have a great mogul resume here and it'd be hard to argue either way

Johnny Unitas Golden Arm - Sean or Hokey. again, both great resumes, and both worthy of a great award for quarterbacking many great teams

The Heafty Douche award - Past award would go to Piazza. My hatred for him is quite documented. Currently, there are several that would qualify for this award but i think trouble maker Peter would narrowly take this award right now. I get along with Peter most of the time, but he definitely has douchery tendencies.

The prettiest pig award - This would have to go to Rocky. i'll leave it at that.

Everyone in the league knows your love of Atlanta and the Braves. If you were to step down tomorrow and had your choice of a GM to take your place. Who are you going to have take your place and why?

Thats a tough question. There are a lot of solid GM's here. 1st, i'd probably give it to Rocky since he is a huge braves fan himself and solid GM as well. If not rocky, I would want Steal Third to take them. It would be interesting to see what he could do with a slightly bigger market than Tampa. He has tampa on the verge but with more revenue, i think he could do some nice things and is a very underrated GM here.

Here is a question from G$, would you rather life on a deserted island with Hokey or Peter? and please explain your answer

I'd rather spend that time alone over either of them, but if i had to choose, I'd pick Hokey. At least i would get along with him the entire time. Peter would be one of those guys that seems cool at first, but the more time you spend with him, the more you think about finding a shark off the coast of said island and slitting your wrist and jumping in...

Any final words?

I love this league. I greatly appreciate the time and effort that is put here by Andy, Hokey and others. This place is a way for me to escape from the realities of the world each day for a few minutes. I've picked on Peter a little bit here, but Peter and everyone else here makes XAT and this league interesting and fun. I appreciate the talks and mogul banter and look forward to many more seasons.
