Pirates Announce Coaching Staff

The Pirates have announced the new coaching changes to take affect for the 2023 season and beyond. The front office has contemplated these decisions for months and have hand selected the best candidates to propel the Pirates to the playoffs and beyond.

Manager: Ellis Burks (age 58)
Coach Burks had a very successful career as an outfielder during the late 1900's and has shown a desire to make his way into managing. He has previous experience as an assistant to the GM in the Cleveland organization and he believes that his experience the will make his transition much easier.

Hitting Coach: Todd Helton (age 49)
Hall of Famer; Todd Helton for the first time will not be with the Colorado Rockies organization. Helton was one of the premier hitters of his time and looks to bring some of his moxy to the Pirates. Top tier hitters tend not to turn into hitting coaches but the Pirates felt he was extremely knowledgeable and mechanics oriented and that would translate into Todd being able to help the Pirates hitters on a daily basis. Pirates hitters should be very excited to get to work with a legend.

Pitching Coach: Paul Byrd (age 51)
Paul Byrd was always known for his very unique delivery as a pitcher but that should not deter his knowledge to help the Pirates pitchers. Byrd was talented in developing mechanics that would be deceptive and that could utilize a good arm slot and through his experience will be able to help the Pirates arms.

Fielding Coach: Pokey Reese (age 49)
Reese played 2 seasons with the Pirates in 2002 and 2003 during his playing career and was highly regarded as an excellent middle infielder. He relied on athleticism more than he did mechanics but to spite that the Pirates fielders can still learn plenty from Coach Reese.
