Ellis Burks and Pirates to Part Ways, Announce New Manager

October 7, 2030

Ellis Burks and the Pirates Organization have decided to mutually part ways following a bittersweet 2030 season. To spite finishing the season with 90 wins the team experienced a late season meltdown that cost themselves a playoff birth. Burks, now 66 years old, said, "This was a great experience in my life and I have loved every minute of bringing baseball back to the city of Pittsburgh. I have been here since 2019 and its been a long hard battle coming to this point with this staff and with many of these players. I am somewhat saddened to be leaving on a sour moment after this late season collapse which I will take the blame for not motivating my players and doing things differently, but as they as hindsight is always 20-20."

When Pirates ownership was asked about the decision they responded, "Ellis could have certainly continued on longer if he still had the fire burning but we completely understand at 66 years old, with a growing family, and being in this business for as long as he has; It is important to know when to move on. We owe a great deal to our great manager and what he has done for our city and for our team."

Pirates ownership went on to make a surprising announcement that a new manager for the ballclub had already been decided upon. "We also have an announcement regarding the managing vacancy now, former major leaguer and Pittsburgh Pirates Freddy Sanchez will be taking over as the skipper of the team."

Freddy Sanchez, now 52, had always been a fan favorite as the middle infielder for the team 2004 through 2009. Sanchez returns to Pittsburgh after being a minor league bench coach in the Pirates system for a number of seasons. Freddy Sanchez's introductory press conference will be held later on this week.
