Nationals Collapse in September, Miss Playoffs and Cut Ties

After a very promising beginning and middle to the 2039 campaign for the Washington Nationals, the ending was not quite as exciting as the team completely faltered in September with a 10-17 during the month. The Nationals finished the season at 85-77, the best record in 11 seasons, and are trending in the right direction but made crucial trades during the season to position themselves into the playoffs. The additions of SS Jernard Metrock and Wil Wible were expected to push the team over the top and they essentially did do this for the offense, but this could not make up for the truly pathetic pitching down the stretch. The bullpen was horrendous outside of the ever-steady closer Jonas Stendall and the pitching of starters Peter Lloyd and Ed Abriol was pathetic.

When GM Peter was asked about changes for the upcoming 2040 season to improve the team he stated, "We have already contacted pitching coach Brett Ruediger to inform him that he will not be returning for his 4th season as pitching coach." When asked who would be taking over as pitching coach GM Peter quickly replied, "Tim Alderson, he was top on our wish list and the interest was obviously mutual"

When asked about the rumors that manager Jason Schexnayder was on the hot seat, GM Peter responded, "Jason will be our manager next year, our players respect him and the team has shown great improvement this season. We expect the improvement to continue."

Expect the Nationals to address their bullpen issues this offseason along with some defensive improvements. Who exactly is on the Nationals radar remains to be seen.
