The Next Wave?

Toronto has seen a long run of success in FCM.  GM Andy has gone from a ho-hum member of the GM masses to one of the admins but since day one there has been a machine put in place in Toronto: Their farm system is built to keep churning, year after year, feeding the big league club continuous options to improve and pursue another championship.

The original championship core was lead by Steve Eickholt and Corey Bosworth, both drafted in 2012, Jeff Anderson, Adeiny Hechavarria, and Rob Wood among others.  That group sucessfully turned the franchise around and made them a perennial World Series threat.

As that group was starting to fade another wave came through.  In 2023 the Blue Jays drafted Chris Munroe, John Vanmeter, and Sean Vogel which added them to a farm system that had recently added Alejandro Castilla and would add Mike Artis and Philip MacGruer in the near future.  Combined with Bosworth and newly acquired studs Fernando Ontario and Jose Vargas, they went on 3 more World Titles and counting.

As that group enters their waning years, what awaits Toronto?  Well Jose Vargas, Fernando Ontario, and others remain to pass the torch ala Bosworth....who will be that next wave?  Let's look at a few prime candidates:

Nick Vaisman:  This young catcher reminds some of Joe Mauer.  Acquired in a trade which shipped out young stud Dan Thurston, Vaisman is quickly establishing himself as a cornerstone of the future.  He's known for his excellent eye at the plate and excellent defense behind it.  Scouts see him as a .400/.450/.850 player in the bigs with potential for more.  Projected Debut: 2038

Trevon Johnson: A young shortstop with an elite skill - speed.  This kid can flat run, but what makes that even better is that he has excelled in the minors at getting on base.  With a .400 OBP and 30 steals in AAA he is showing exactly the offensive production hoped from him.  Couple that with an outstanding arm and instincts at short (a bit of need in reducing errors) but he could be a difference maker at a position that is thin throughout the league.  Projected Debut:  2038

Carlo Musquez: Buzz in Toronto is high on this young player.  With similarities to the highly underrated P-Mac, fans in Toronto are drooling about the idea of him table-setting a future lineup with heavy speed/power combinations.  Carlo is an outstanding defensive CF with another strong projection to be a contact/eye/speed player with a line that could see .400/.400/.800 with limited power potential.  He is the ideal leadoff hitter and his time is drawing very close.  Project Debut: 2039, with a taste in 2038

Is this the next group to hold down the Toronto offense?  With supporting talent like Chad Noah, Aaron Anderson,  Jameson Thurston, Tony Kynaston,Theo Shacky, and Chris Barger to build around...things are looking good for the future!
